Participating in multiple J-1 programs made possible again!

The Department of State has released new regulations governing the use and participation of U.S. companies and international trainees in the J1 visa program. We have listed the major changes that will go into effect on July 19 th , 2007.

The new Internship program

Candidates that will be eligible for this program are current students enrolled in a degree or certificate granting post secondary institution outside of the U.S. or Recent graduates from a degree or certificate granting post secondary institution, who will begin the program within 12 months of graduation.

The Training program

Candidates that will be eligible for this program are graduates of degree or certificate granting post secondary institution with one year of work experience outside the U.S. or Non-graduates with five years of work experience outside the U.S.

Maximum duration of programs

All internship and training programs for Hospitality and Tourism are reduced from 18 months to 12 months.

New Form DS-7002 replaces current training plans

The new form DS 7002 will represent the training program in detail for all trainees, and must be co-signed by all parties involved before approval for the J1 visa is granted.
