Austin's Award-Winning Uchi Restaurant, famous for its Japanese Cuisine, is headed to Santa Monica! Join this brand new restaurant as a talented Demi Chef! Rotate through Meat/Grill Station (Hotline), Sushi, and Pastry during your program! Gain skills from the best in the industry!

Located in West Hollywood, there will be so much to do on your days off! Visit the Santa Monica Pier, visit numerous beaches, hike to the infamous Hollywood sign, and explore all that West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica have to offer!

Salary: $21/hr

Benefits:

Uniform is provided. Candidate should bring their own knives.

1 meal is provided per shift.

Candidates should fly into LAX, but there will be no airport pickup unless absolutely necessary.

Santa Monica has a vast transportation system and bikes/scooters can be rented around town.

Eligibility criteria for our Career USA programs:

- You are enrolled in a post secondary ministerially recognized academic institution in the hospitality industry OR have a hospitality degree and at least 1 year of recent relevant work experience in the (ultra) luxury hotel industry (outside of the USA) OR have 5 years recent relevant work experience in the (ultra) luxury hotel industry (outside the USA)

- You have shown consistent career growth over the last years

- You have shown serious commitment to your most recent employers

Los Angeles is a sprawling Southern California city and the center of the nation’s film and television industry. Near its iconic Hollywood sign, studios such as Paramount Pictures, Universal and Warner Brothers offer behind-the-scenes tours. On Hollywood Boulevard, TCL Chinese Theatre displays celebrities’ hand- and footprints, the Walk of Fame honors thousands of luminaries and vendors sell maps to stars’ homes.

Housing:

Housing in LA is very expensive varied depending on the area and size of apartment. It is recommended that you start reviewing housing in the area prior to your arrival. The average one bedroom apartment starts around $1,700 per month, unfurnished, not including utilities, outside the city center. It is advised as a J-1 exchange visitor that you look into options of sharing housing with other locals and/or J-1 exchange visitors. Below are some resources regarding housing in the area. Please note, without established credit your first and last month’s rent may be required as a deposit. HRC recommends you arrive with at least $3,000 as startup capital and to help secure housing. It is entirely possible that you may need a car during your time here. Remember to consider the cost of purchasing a vehicle and vehicle insurance. On average, a J-1 participant can expect to pay upwards of $400 on a used car payment per month and $150.00 per month for vehicle insurance. If you choice to purchase a vehicle you will need to have your international driver’s license to apply for your state drivers license ID.

Climate:

Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate. Los Angeles has plenty of sunshine throughout the year, with an average of only 35 days with measurable precipitation annually.

Temperatures in the coastal basin exceed 90 °F (32 °C) on a dozen or so days in the year, from one day a month in April, May, June and November to three days a month in July, August, October and to five days in September. Temperatures in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys are considerably warmer. Temperatures are subject to substantial daily swings; in inland areas the difference between the average daily low and the average daily high is over 30 °F (17 °C).
