Located in Santa Barbara in the Ynez Mountain valley, Los Olivos is a tiny town with a lot to do. With rich history and stunning vineyards Los Olivos is home to boutique wineries, artisanal restaurants and cafes, as well as several tourist attractions. Spend your days tasting craft beer and wine, take a trip to the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, or enjoy spend the day seaside at Stearns Wharf. Whatever your interest, Los Olivos has something for you.
The property offers employee housing for $1,000 per month, but the price may be cheaper if rooming with a roommate. If J1 housing is not utilized, housing outside of the are will need to be acquired.
You can expect off property housing to start around $1,700 for a studio. Below are some resources regarding housing in the area. Please note, without established credit your first and last month’s rent may be required as a deposit. HRC recommends you arrive with at least $2,500 as startup capital and to help secure housing.
With Los Olivos being a smaller town, public transportation is not available in the area. Candidates will need to purchase a bike, moped, or vehicle for transportation. If a vehicle is purchased, insurance will also need to be purchased and can be expected to be approximately $150 per month. HRC recommends candidates bring an additional $2,500 to obtain transportation. You must have your international drivers license to obtain a state license quickly.
Los Olivos’ climate is moderate with temperatures reaching 85 °F (30 °C) in the summer months (June-August). Winters are milder with a low of 38 °F (3 °C) throughout the months of December and January. The majority of the year is sunny with only 21 inches of rain each year.
