Housing:

Housing in Mobile can be fairly affordable with a one bedroom apartment starting around $700 per month unfurnished and depending on the area. Please note, without established credit your first and last month’s rent may be required as a deposit. HRC recommends you arrive with at least $2,500 as startup capital and to help secure housing.

Transportation:

Mobile has a few public transportation options available if staying downtown including a bus service and bike rentals. If living outside the downtown area the purchase of a vehicle is encouraged. If purchasing a vehicle, vehicle insurance will also be required. You can expect to pay around $150 per month for insurance. HRC recommends you bring an additional $2,000 if purchasing a vehicle.

Climate:

Because Mobile is in the Southern United States it can be hot and humid at times. You can expect to see rain an average of 114 days out of the year with an average 66 inches annually. Mobile can also get very hot with average temperature during the summer reaching more then 90F (32C). During the winter months the temperature will drop to around 40F (4C) with little to no chance of snow.
